The sport of noodling is described as fishing for catfish by using oneβs bare hands, practiced mostly in the southern U.S. The campaign Novice Noodling was inspired from the task of researching a hobby and packaging that discovered information into an instructional tool.
Research on noodling showed that the hobby dates to the late 1700s and is still popular today for the adrenaline and challenge that it presents. However, findings also displayed that social media platforms and TV shows have further popularized the sport from individuals boasting about their record-breaking catches, but without warning of the risks and responsibilities that go along with it. For this reason, Novice Noodling was created as an informational campaign hosted during Oklahomaβs Annual Noodling Tournament, Okie Noodling, as it is one of the most famous states for noodling.
During this weekend-long event, the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation (ODWC) would set up as a vendor with the Novice Noodling booth, tri-fold presentation, and takeaways, educating and motivating first-time, inexperienced noodlers how to noodle safely and responsibly. The total campaign consists of the Novice Noodling logo, a promotional carousel social media post, a vendor booth, backdrop, and banners, a tri-fold presentation board, and a t-shirt takeaway.
